Farhan Akhtar backs Arjun Tendulkar after ‘nepotism’ debate

Bollywood star actor-cum-producer Farhan Akhtar has come out in support of under-fire Arjun Tendulkar post MI signing him at his base price in IPL 2021 auction.

As soon as Arjun Tendulkar’s name was called during the IPL 2021 auction, many ardent cricket fans closely followed the proceedings on Chennai before he was finally bought by his home franchise Mumbai Indians, at his base price of Rs 20 lakhs.

Arjun, who was a part of the Mumbai squad in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Tournament and is now also to be seen in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2020/21, will be under the radar when he comes out to perform for the MI camp as claims of nepotism has already started doing the rounds after the IPL 2021 auction.

Amid many claiming that being Sachin Tendulkar’s son helped his cause to a great extend, Bollywood star actor-cum-producer Farhan Akhtar has come out in support of under-fire Arjun.

Farhan took to his official Twitter handle on Saturday (February 20) and wrote, “I feel I should say this about #Arjun_Tendulkar. We frequent the same gym & I’ve seen how hard he works on his fitness, seen his focus to be a better cricketer. To throw the word ‘nepotism’ at him is unfair & cruel. Don’t murder his enthusiasm & weigh him down before he’s begun.”

Farhan has time and again been very vocal on various aspects surrounding the country and has even faced criticism due to the ‘nepotism card’ as well. However, there’s no denying that his backing will certainly lift an under-fire Arjun’s spirits before his much-awaited IPL debut.

After picking Arjun at his base price, MI head coach Mahela Jayawardene was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo, “There is going to be a big tag on his head because of Sachin. But, luckily, he’s a bowler, not a batsman. So I think Sachin will be very proud if he could bowl like Arjun. I think it’s going to be a learning process for Arjun. He just started playing for Mumbai, and now the franchise. He will learn the ropes; he will evolve. He’s still young. A very focused young man.”
