The marriage of Bakhtawar Bhutto Zardari, the eldest daughter of former president Asif Ali Zardari and late prime minister Benazir Bhutto, got married here to UAE-based businessman Mahmood Choudhry.
A very limited number of people attended the ceremony at Bilawal House, Karachi, due to COVID-19 safety precautions in place. Noted spiritual and religious personality of Thatta, Maulana Ghulam Mohammed Soho, officiated the marriage.
The ceremony was held in the traditional eastern manner, with the bride and bridegroom wearing elegant wedding attire.
Some of the noteworthy participants at the event included Sanam Bhutto (aunt of Bakhtawar), Faryal Talpur (sister of Asif Ali Zardari), Sherry Rehman, Dr Asim Hussain, Anwer Majeed, Shazia Marri. Some close relatives of the two families also attended the event along with a few friends from abroad.
Pakistan Peoples’ Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and his sister Aseefa Bhutto Zardari received the guests. Rukhsti of Bakhtawar took place after her Nikah.
Earlier in November last year, the engagement ceremony of Bakhtawar Bhutto was held at Bilawal House in open air with limited gathering.
A wedding reception is being held at Bilawal House on Saturday night. The leaders of other political parties are not invited to the wedding reception at Bilawal House.
Separate wedding receptions will be held in Islamabad, Lahore, and Larkana (the home town of the Bhuttos in Sindh) to let more dignitaries, especially political leaders, become a part of the wedding festivities.
In a tweet after the marriage, Bilawal said: “Happiest moment in many years to see my sister Bakhtawar Bhutto Zardari getting married. Felt like our mother was watching over us in this moment of joy. Wishing them both all the best for their new life together. Mashallah.”
